10 Tips to Apply Foundation Like a Pro

It’s easy to conclude that all celebrities and models have perfect skin. Well, they don’t. What they do have is access to some of the best makeup artists who are really good at helping them maintain a healthy skin and cover the blemishes using the right tools and products.

Many of us struggle to achieve that natural and flawless finish when applying foundation. Where do we go wrong? We’ll share some do’s and don’ts on applying foundation to give you the flawless finish. Whether you are using foundation to create an even complexion, hide dark circles or blemishes, discover the best foundation tips from top makeup artists.

  1.        Choose the correct color

Don’t match foundation to your wrist or arm. Instead, choose a color that matches your neck. It may take a lot of effort to test the foundation on your neck but it’s ultimately worthwhile if you find the perfect shade.

  1.        Apply on clean and moisturized skin

Your skin needs to be properly prepared for foundation. Make sure it is clean and moisturized. After applying the moisturizer, give it 5 minutes to set in before you apply the foundation.

  1.        Apply a primer

If you need the foundation to last for a longer time, make sure you apply a primer. The good thing with a primer is that it mattifies your face and helps to reduce pores.

  1.        Use your fingers, sponge or brush but do it right

If you only want a little coverage, you can use your fingers and massage the product in circular motions. If you would prefer more coverage, use a sponge or a beauty blender that is designed for applying foundation.

  1.        Use a concealer

This will help you to cover the little skin flaws and dark circles especially under the eyes. Choose a concealer that is one shade lighter than your skin. If the concealer is too light, it won’t give you a natural finish.

  1.        Dust with a finishing powder

After applying the foundation, make sure you give it a nice finish with a suitable luminous powder. The finishing powder helps to set your makeup but it’s not the only way, you can use a spray that is designed to set your makeup.

  1.        Check in natural light

If you don’t have a good source of natural light in your bathroom, walk out of the house after applying the foundation to look at it in natural light. You may notice some unblended areas that need some touch ups.

  1.        Use an oil-free foundation

if your skin is prone to breakouts, opt for an oil-free foundation that doesn’t clog your pores. Water-based foundations are also better for people with sensitive or oily skins. The drier skin types can handle heavier foundations.

  1.        Use a makeup sponge

If you like applying your foundation with a brush, use a makeup sponge on hand to buff out the tiny brush strokes for a flawless finish.

      Apply the foundation downwards

Apply your foundation with downward strokes instead of upward strokes.

Hair and makeup go hand in hand, when you have flawless makeup, you need to get stunning hair too.
