How to Make Your Lipstick Last Longer

Let’s face it, we all want our lipsticks to stay on all day. But there’s a lot that you’re probably doing wrong to prevent your lipstick from wearing off. If you’re not careful, your lipstick can end up transferring everywhere.

We’ll show you how to keep your lipstick where it belongs- on your beautiful lips. Try the tips and tricks below and thank us later.

Exfoliate your lips

While exfoliating in the shower, make sure you scrub your lips to get rid of the dead skin and flakes that could make your lips appear chapped. You can also make your own exfoliator using sugar and a few drops of olive oil. Just rub the mixture on your lips with your finger.

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize

Not all lipsticks have just the perfect moisturizing features. Take that important step of moisturizing your lips every morning. We recommend the Revlon Colorstay Lipcolor which has a moisturizing gloss to keep your lips shiny and smooth all day long.

Invest in a lip primer

Lip primers are designed to help lipsticks last longer by keeping the color in place. Some can be too drying or uncomfortably waxy so make sure you look for a lip primer that works for you.

Pick the right shade

Lipstick colors that contain certain pigments usually last much longer. Generally, if you choose a darker lipcolor, expect it to last longer than its paler counterpart. Red, plum and coral lipsticks have longer staying power whereas nude or skin-toned colors don’t stay as long. The Nouba Millebaci No. 46 is one example of a red lipcolor that can last all day long.

Apply on bare lips

When you apply balms or glosses on the lips first, it gives your lipstick a poor surface to work with. Remove any oils on the lips by blotting with a tissue then apply the lipstick if you don’t want it to wear-off easily.

Apply the first layer of lipstick and then blot on a tissue a couple of times then repeat with another layer then blot again until you find the color strength you desire.

Apply powder on your lips

If you have a light and translucent powder, it can help to keep the lipstick color in place. Just apply the powder on your lips to set the lipstick. We recommend the Revlon Colorstay Pressed Powder.

The secret to making your lipstick last longer is getting healthy lips. No lipstick color will last long if your lips are dry, chapped or cracked.
