Lace closures and lace frontals are both very useful in creating beautiful and flawless sew in installations. They both serve the same purpose, which is to close off an install. They both disregard the need to leave your hair out for blending. Weave installation is becoming more natural every day.

Closures

A closure is used at the crown of your head and is sewn in with approximately 2-5 bundles of weaves depending on how much volume you want; the front is usually installed with glue or by sewing. They come in different sizes 4″ x 5″ or 4″ x 4″ or 5″ x 5″. Lace closures are made using lace which gives the illusion of your natural scalp.

 

Frontals

A frontal is a half wig which goes from ear to ear and is sewn with approximately 2-3 bundles of hair. The beauty of a frontal is the fact that the hair can then be held in different styles and you can hold the hair up whereas the closure cannot be held up.

Differences between lace closures and lace frontals

Difference between lace frontals and lace closures are the size. Lace frontals are bigger mainly because they run ear to ear to cover the entire hairline. Lace closures are smaller because their main purpose is to close off an install, the main reason why they are called closures. Closures typically only cover a horseshoe size portion at the front of an install.

The main benefit of using a lace frontal is its styling versatility. A lace frontal allows you to achieve a styling option that a closure doesn’t.  Frontals allow you to wear pulled back hairstyles and up dos. Remember closures only cover a small portion of the front of the install making it impossible to pull back the sides without exposing your hair extension tracks. A lace frontal covers the entire front hairline and will allow you to achieve a seamless style that you can style as you please.

Another difference between the two is that lace closures are sewn into place while lace frontals are meant to be bonded in place. However, it is possible for a skilled hair stylist to sew a lace frontal behind the hairline using invisible thread. I personally prefer the sew-in method, but it is important that you choose a method that will respond best to your hair.
